Back On Track
Brian's Journal, June 5, 1998
With less than a month until we hit the road, things appear to
be moving at lightning speed. I've settled into my temporary abode
in Los Angeles as Chris and I make final preparations for the
quest.
In the past two weeks I've left my job, packed up the majority
of my possessions, drove a Ryder truck to Nebraska to store stuff
with relatives, and flew back to California. I've been lucky enough
to have the support of many friends and relatives who have eased
the transition and have allowed me to concentrate on the task
at hand--creating a community in pursuit of successful living.
I must admit that at times it feels as if I've just leapt off
a bridge. Fortunately I have faith that a bungie cord is attached
to my leg and the ride promises to be a wild one.
For the first time in a longtime, I feel exhilarated and excited
about life--both the good and bad parts. I've always been a positive,
relatively optimistic person, but before the decision to turn
my life into something more, I felt as if I was sometimes "going
through the motions" and not truly living. It's sad really, how
we can become so wrapped up in the monotony of the moment that
we lose touch with our feelings, dreams, and desires. So, anyway,
I feel like I'm back on track and I hope I've found something
that will enable me to realize (at least more often) that life
is to be lived, enjoyed, and, most importantly, shared with others.
I'll keep you posted.
