Twirling & Spinning
Brian's Journal, June 28, 1998

Twenty-four hours remain until we hit the road. I sit in a laundromat waiting the spin cycle to finish. It reminds me of how my head has felt recently--spinning, spinning, spinning. The difference is that it feels more like the exhilarating spinning you feel as a child does when you twirl until you drop. Dizzy feels good as a kid.

Freedom does that I guess. I was writing a good friend the other night. I was trying to explain to her how my "work" at organizing the Quest-4 project has led to more time spent up late at night ironing out details, finalizing schedules, and planning than at almost any other time in my life. And yet, I feel less tired, drained, or stressed than ever before. Don't get me wrong, it hasn't always been smooth sailing, but the bumps in the road seem easier to navigate, or at least more fun.

So as I was saying, we leave tomorrow after our official launch party. The week leading up to the launch has been great. We met with Mark and Megan from Road Trip America (www.roadtripamerica.com). They've been "on the road" since their house burnt down several years ago. They managed to give us lots of good advice on what we should expect in the coming months. They also gave us great insight into how to live a more happy and fulfilling life. Check out the interview excepts in our Insight section.

So as I sit and spin I wonder where the road will take us and whether all my socks will have matches at the end.
