One Huge Country
Brian's Journal, July 27, 1998
Chris and I have talked about adding another "statistic" to our
site. The new stat would record the of number of times one of
us says," This is one huge country!" We've said it a lot lately.
I've had the opportunity to drive around America on numerous occasions
and every time I'm in awe of the sheer size and immensity of this
country. Think you're crowded in Boston? Move out to Wyoming or
Montana. Stir crazy in San Francisco? There's plenty of room in
Idaho and Washington.
We've driven over 4,000 miles up the West Coast and through a
tiny portion of the west and have only scratched the surface of
America. The good and the bad of this are that you can never see
it all.
You don't get this feeling of size when you travel by air. Sure
it may be faster, but what's in between is where so much happens.
Sure it may seem like it takes forever to fly from Seattle to
Chicago, but try it at 60 not 600 miles per hour.
I'm glad were traveling and exploring by car to see all the nooks
and crannies, the good and the bad. I only hope that we use the
same approach when exploring success in America and take the time
to explore and not just fly over the surface. Whatever happens,
the fact remains "This is one huge country!"
