Building A Community
Brian's Journal, July 31, 1998

I woke up today still reeling from a high caused by the power of the Internet and the realization of our dreams and hard work.

Last night when we unpacked the PowerBook to check our e-mail after a couple of days of being "off-line" in the Dakotas, we were blasted with mail from friends we hadn't heard from in years and "strangers" we had just met.

You see, the local paper in Huntington, West Virginia, (the place where Chris and I met a little over 25 years ago) ran a nice little column about the "quest." We had letters of congratulations, letters joking that we were crazy, and letters just saying they were glad to be able to contact us again. It was really great.

What was more exhilarating were the letters from new friends, They sent comments about our journal entries they had read, comments about how they found the insights about success and happiness valuable to their lives, and comments simply inviting us to "stop by" during the journey.

It's a really special feeling to see the Quest-4 community grow. More than that though, it makes the experience all that more valuable for everyone. Heck, we don't claim to have all the answers (I'm not even confident saying we have any answers at this point), but we're learning and we hope you're learning too. We'd like to make this experience valuable to each and everyone, so drop us a line, send us your thoughts, share with the community your opinions on success and fulfillment in America today.

When we started out a little over a month ago, we had no idea of the type of response we'd get or the impact we'd have on others. We had pledged to ourselves that if only one other person got something out of the Quest-4 experience, it would have been all worth it. Well, it's been worth it and a whole lot more.
