If I leave here tomorrow Cities come and go. Our itinerary flies by as points on the map race past our windshield. We enter a city, we leave. The harsh realities of life on the road. Our tour is an ambitious one to say the least. We will be hitting all lower 48 states over the next 6 months and the timetable leaves little room for loafing. While I find this constant motion invigorating and exciting I have found it does offer some challenges. The one I have noticed most already is the lack of opportunity to really get to know the people I meet along the way. Through our journey and interviews I have already met some very interesting people, all of which I would love the chance to get to know a little better. It would be great to spend some more time with them, learn more about their lives, dreams, and aspirations. But it seems with each encounter the road beckons and we are off before friendship has a chance to blossom. I find myself feeling like Bruce Banner in the old Incredible Hulk television series. Each week he would be in a new town and meet new friends only to hulk-out, turn green, break something, and move on to the next town and next exciting episode. That's me ... well, except for the green and breaking and Hulk parts. Though I guess I have an advantage over the Hulk: email and the internet. At least I can keep in touch with my new friends via cyberspace and who knows, perhaps I'll be in their city again someday soon. And I'll take that over a dose of Gamma radiation any day.
