During our stay in Sheridan I was given one of those rare opportunities to step back from life for a moment, or I guess others would argue it was stepping "into life". We had already been on the road for almost a month and I had learned a great deal, had many experiences, seen so much, and met many interesting people. Our pace constant: all go go go. When we arrived at my cousin's ranch outside Sheridan I thought I would take time to go off on my own and explore all I have seen and learned, take a moment to internalize it. I thought a few days of hiking and camping alone would do the trick (and give Brian his own much needed break, complete with a satellite TV, movies, and SportsCenter). What I found myself doing instead was embarking on a Native American VisionQuest, thanks to the suggestion of Marcus Red Thunder, and Cree Indian we were interviewing for our website. Thanks to Marcus' suggestion and assistance I went off into the wilderness for 2 days of solitude and fasting. What I came away with was a clear mind, cleansed body, and the realization of hidden inner truths. I've always been one to take time out from life to try to assess the score, to check the map and my inner compass and see if I'm on the right path. I guess, in a way, this is part of what the Quest-4 project is all about. I'm checking my own path, exploring my options, inner strengths and weaknesses, while trying to help others to do the same. I think a lot can be gained from freeze framing life for a moment. It's something we often lose sight of in the fast motion of modern society. And it doesn't always take a vision quest to center ourselves; an hour here or there, a walk in the park, a glass of wine while listening to Mozart may do it for you. Whatever it takes, just as long as we take it. The wheels are rolling once more and its time to move. The quest continues...
