Look Who's Talking
Chris' Journal, August 18, 1998

Today when something is said, many people tend to look more at who is speaking than what is being said. In picking up a book, after reading over the description of the contents we will usually read about the author next. Who is this person who thinks they can speak to me of such matters? Is it our humanness to ask that question, to want to know who's giving the statement, or talk, or piece of advice before paying it heed?

During one of the Quest-4 focus groups one of our participants said it this way, "It's sad, but we would be viewing you and your project totally different if you were not from a so-called successful background." She pointed out that since Brian and I had followed society's road map and achieved some success in the corporate world our opinions and the project were valid in their eyes. Whereas if we were just someone walking in off the street they would probably pay little heed to the questions posed and ideas presented.

I had to ponder this. Isn't it possible that someone could come to realizations about the world and life at an early age and embark on a path that is personally fulfilling without ever obtaining "social success"? And if so, wouldn't their ideas and opinions be even more valid than someone like ours?

Brian and I are not PhDs, nor psychologists, nor self-help gurus, nor religious icons. We are simply two individuals with interest, inquisitiveness, and compassion. We don't try to sell any ideas or opinions, we just offer them to you for your assessment. Our credentials are our lives as fellow human beings, our membership in the global community, and our desire to make a contribution.

Enjoy what you read, take of it what you will, and share with others that which you find useful.
