Wish List
Chris' Journal, August 26, 1998

There are many things in this world that have to be experienced for yourself. So many incredible things, large and small. The senses take it all in and analyze it, explore it. We see the sights, hear the sounds, feel, smell and taste.

I have always been one for wanting the experience. When I see something on TV, or read about it in a book, or hear about it in conversation I want to try it for myself. I want to have that sensual experience of my own, to know how I would bring the experience into my world.

This lust for experience has helped carry me around the world and has spurred me to leap out of airplanes, eat fried beetles, ride elephants, and play with sloth bears (as seen on my personal website The Dragon Online). And when I was planning to take the Quest-4 adventure I was excited with the opportunities to try new things on the road. To take up challenges that would push me personally and give me chances to learn more about myself and the world around me. I made a mental note of things I wanted to experience if the opportunity came up. I guess we all have such mental lists in the back of our minds, I tend to keep adding to mine all the time.

I have already had the chance to explore many things, both big and small. I set out on a Vision Quest, ran through a corn field, visited a State Fair, and even skydived. All wonderful experiences I will continue to cherish.

As we travel on our journey many people have asked about the things I want to do on the trip, naturally assuming I have some things in mind to do across the nation. Some have even asked me to send them a "list" so they can see if they have any suggestions, recommendations, or even ways to help achieve them. It seemed like a great idea and I thought about getting out the pen and paper. The problem is is that the list has a life of its own, constantly changing and so long it would be difficult to write it out.

But just for fun, here are some things I'd like to do on our quest. I've left off many items such as trying certain flavors of ice cream, or visiting this museum or that scenic area. Here's just some of the more bizarre or adventurous activities I will do should the time, money, and opportunity present itself. Got any ideas?

The Animal Kingdom: Milk a cow; Herd Cattle; Wrestle an alligator; Visit one on one with a great ape

Fun With Transportation: Go out on a fishing boat; Ride a swamp boat; Hang Glide; Go sailing; Try wind-surfing; White water rafting on the upper Gulley River; Fly in a jet fighter; Mule rides in the Gand Canyon; Go up in a hotair balloon; Ride in a glider; Fly in a crop duster

Sporting Fun: Try Flyfishing; Go spelunking; Run through a military obstacle course; Run the bases at a major league ball park; Try snowboarding; Ride a dune buggy in the desert

And More: Work on a farm; Scuba dive to the Jules Verne Lodge; Tour Marvel Comics; Go on a buddhist retreat
