Say Anything
Chris' Journal, August 30, 1998

What are your plans for the future?...
- Mr.Court

You mean like careeer? Uhm, I don't know. I've thought about this a lot sir, and I would have to say considering what's waiting out there for me, I don't want to sell anything, buy anything or processes anything as a career. And I don't want to sell anything bought or processed or buy anything sold or processed or process anything sold, bought, or processed. Or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. As a career I don't want to do that. So, uhm, my father's in the army and he wants me to join, but I can't work for that corporation. So what I've been doing lately is kick boxing, which is a new sport but I think its got a good future.
- Lloyd Dobbler

This quote from the movie Say Anything may be the work of fiction but can show us a neat lesson in following your dreams. John Cusak's character in the movie, Lloyd Dobbler, was a likable guy with little "ambition". His passion was kick-boxing, which back in 1986 brought a chuckle to the audience when he referred to it as "kick-boxing, sport of the future." This ecclectic interest was what he wanted to do with his life (well, this and spend as much time as possible with Ione Skye's character Diane Court).

In looking at the kick-boxing craze that has sprung up across the country, with its glamorous status, fancy gyms and studios, and being touted as the healthiest workout, it seems it was indeed the sport of the future. Had Lloyd stuck to his guns and followed his passion he could have very well ended up riding the crest of the kick-boxing rave and opening exclusive clubs up and down the coast. He would be doing exactly what he loved and the money would have followed.

And best of all, he wouldn't be processing anything, or selling anything, or buying anything ....
