Old quest, new medium

Excerpts from the HERALD DISPATCH article by Dave Peyton (Published August, 1998)

Huntington natives Chris Moeller and Brian Ardinger are on a quest to find the meaning of successful living.

As with so many generations before them, they've become a bit restless and uneasy with the way their lives are heading. But Moeller and Ardinger are different in that they are sharing what they are searching for on an interactive Web page called Quest-4.

You can see it at http://www.quest-4.com. At age 30, they are part of what's known as Generation X. Some call it the lost generation, though that's nothing new for a young generation in search of meaning. Sharing that search on the World Wide Web is the new twist......

"We were doing well at our jobs, but we weren't completely satisfied," Moeller said. In talking to friends and associates, they found that they were not alone. Many were struggling with the same kind of uneasiness about their lives.

That's when they decided they'd quit their jobs and tour the country for six months or more to try to find out from others what successful living is all about.

"Too many people today are struggling with the stress of daily living, trying to find answers to questions common to all of us. What is success? How can I be happier? What are the keys to reaching a balanced life? The Quest-4 project is designed to explore these questions and provide insights into the answers," Moeller says.

The two purchased a sport utility vehicle and packed what they needed for their trip in June and set off to look for America. Their Quest-4 Web page invites readers to see excerpts from interviews they have done, and will continue to do, along the path of their tour which will take them to every state in the lower 48 states. As material is gathered on the trip, Moeller and Ardinger update the Web site, usually on a daily basis.

But just as important to their trip, they say is the feedback they get from those who read the Web pages. "We want people to look at our map and see where we are going to be and when we're going to be there. We want them to recommend people in their area who are living successfully and who are happy with their lives, because we want to talk to those people," Moeller said......
